What You’ll Do

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Training and Recruitment Officer to support the recruitment, development and ongoing performance of our driving workforce in the Wirral.

This is a varied role that combines driver training, recruitment and employee development, ensuring our colleagues have the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, reliable and customer-focused services. You will be responsible for delivering all aspects of PCV licence acquisition training, conducting driver assessments, supporting recruitment activities, and delivering a range of classroom-based and practical training programmes.

Working closely with operational, engineering and HR teams, you will play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and customer service across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver all aspects of PCV driving licence acquisition training, including theory and practical instruction, to DVSA test standards.
    • Conduct driving assessments, coaching sessions and remedial training to improve driver performance, safety and customer service.
    • Deliver classroom-based training programmes, inductions and Driver CPC periodic training.
    • Provide a range of non-driver training programmes as required across the business.
    • Support recruitment activity, including candidate assessments, interviews and compliance checks.
    • Maintain accurate training and recruitment records using both electronic and paper-based systems.
    • Assist with incident investigations, providing expert knowledge of driver behaviour and driving standards.
    • Monitor trainee progress and provide updates to management, escalating concerns where appropriate.
    • Work closely with operational and HR colleagues to ensure recruitment and training targets are achieved.
    • Build positive working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and recognised trade union representatives.
    • Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to maintain knowledge of legislation, regulations and industry best practice.
    • Promote a positive learning culture, encouraging continuous improvement and professional development across the workforce.
    • Support the Manchester training function as and when required.

What We’re Looking For

  • A valid Category D PCV licence held for a minimum of three years.
  • A valid Driver CPC qualification.
  • Previous experience within a driver training environment.
  • Strong knowledge of driver standards, road safety legislation and transport operations.
  • Excellent communication, coaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and engage with colleagues at all levels.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office and digital systems.
  • Strong written skills, including report writing and professional correspondence.
  • Ability to use initiative, solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
  • A positive and flexible approach with a passion for developing people and supporting business improvement.

Location: Birkenhead Depot (CH41 8ES) with travel also required to support Greater Manchester training department.

Job Type: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Salary: c£40,000
