Go North West is on the lookout for future engineers!

Go North West is calling on the next generation of talented engineers to apply for its industry-leading engineering apprenticeship programme. The programme offers a unique opportunity to build real-world, lifelong skills while earning recognised qualifications and a competitive wage. Applications are open until 22 March 2026, with the first intake starting in July 2026.

This programme is designed for people who want more than just a job. It offers the chance to join a team that takes pride in delivering a safe and reliable service that keeps millions of customers moving every day. From day one, apprentices will begin developing practical, transferable skills while working with advanced zero-emission technology.

Apprentices will start by learning about complex mechanical and electrical systems through a blend of classroom-based training and hands-on, real-world experience.  They will then join Go North West, based primarily at either Bolton or Wigan depot, where they will continue learning on the job while gaining a qualification and earning a wage. The programme is delivered in partnership with S&B Automative Academy, one of the leading automotive apprenticeship providers, and includes placements with other Go-Ahead Group partners.

Go North West engineers maintain a fleet of over 200 buses across Greater Manchester. As an award-winning apprenticeship provider with engineering training centres based in both London and Manchester, Go-Ahead provides clear career pathways for emerging talent, while continuing to develop the skills and knowledge of Go-Ahead’s 900 engineers across the UK & Ireland for the sustainable future of transport.

Go-Ahead is committed to removing barriers to entry by providing substantial financial support to successful applicants, including funded driving lessons and tests, to help more people start a career in engineering regardless of their background. Dedicated mentors will help guide and support recruits throughout the programme.

Nigel Featham, Managing Director, Go North West said: “We’re looking for the best of the best to join our engineering teams. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for people who want to earn while they learn and develop skills that support long-term careers. This investment from Go-Ahead has created an excellent opportunity for people considering a career in engineering and we are committed to broadening access for underrepresented groups, including women, into engineering roles. This apprenticeship programme also supports Go-Ahead’s long-term commitment to transition to a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2035.”
